Character Information
Name: The Psiioniic/"Cyrus I. Onikous"
Canon Origin/Series: Homestuck
Teaching Position and why it suits them: Ancient Runes; The Psiioniic is accustomed to varying symbols and shapes and the meanings behind them.

Suitability: Everything the Psiioniic learned about teaching came from the Signless. He too had learned to spread the message that the man had to share with the world. While he wasn't nearly as eloquent as the Signless was, he had come to learn how to spread the world and to educate in his own means.

Re: HP Canon: The Psiioniic has zero tolerance for bullshit, and he WILL make you work for your grade. However, even though he has a zero-tolerance policy, he's got a very comfortable air about him. The Psiioniic is somewhat socially anxious and doesn't feel all that comfortable all the time in public situations, so he wants to be able to be comfortable when teaching. He has this policy where when he comes into class, he is going to remove his robes, and quite literally be dressed in a pair of slacks, vest and a button down shirt--looking somewhat as if he's dressed like the students. He does this as a means of saying "I want to be comfortable, dressed in what I'm used to. So all of you are permitted to dress comfortably as well."

Gender: Male

Age: 31

Out of school living location: Part time in Salford, Manchester, United Kingdom. Part time in Athens, Greece.

Blood status: Halfblood. Duality thing going on here. Father was a muggle, Englishman from Manchester, England. Mother was a Greek witch. She didn't attend Hogwarts herself, but after she and Cyrus's father married, Cyrus did end up attending Hogwarts rather than the Greek wizarding school.

Personality:

The Psiioniic was actually a rather powerful, but lower class troll on his home planet of Alternia. He'd spent most of his life in some sort of slavery where he essentially served the upper class.

For most of his life, he had accepted his fate as being that of compliance and servitude, but he was easily inspired by the message of the Signless whose word had reached him and enabled the Psiioniic to embrace the concept of breaking the shackles of oppression, and he became a peace and equality seeking individual. Because of this, he became very devoted, and very loyal to the Signless as a means of tribute to the other. He was stubborn in his beliefs, but dedicated to the cause, staying close with the Signless and protecting him at all costs. It had become his life's ambition to serve and support the Signless and his message. Not only had he come to call himself a supporter, and a guardian of the man, but he considered himself to be one of his closest friends. Despite the difference in their castes, the Psiioniic was willing to embrace the companionship and friendship that he shared with the other troll.

However, his loyalty began to be tested after the execution of his closest friend. Unlike his fellow companions, who either fled, or were sold into slavery, the Psiioniic was forced to be the pilot of the planet's great empress's flagship, through means of utilizing his psionic abilities. Initially, it was a duty he seemed to resist, as he was still loyal to his friend's message, but he was slowly broken down after many years of having his lifespan constantly increased, and being manipulated into responding to the almost romantic advances of the Condesce. His position as the Helmsman, rather than the Psiioniic, had begun to brainwash him into abandoning his loyalty to the Signless, and now had triggered him into only obeying the Condesce instead. In turn, he had come to lose his sense of self, and what truly was occuring within the Psiioniic's mind at the end of his life, no one could really know.

It can be assumed that the Psiioniic was incredibl close and dedicated to the Signless, the Disciple and the Dolorosa, because of how they were able to help him from a restricted life. According to fandom, it's assumed that he was a rather awkward figure, somewhat anxious from time to time and somewhat sarcastic and snarky, similar to that of his descendent, Sollux Captor. It could also be that the Psiioniic can get easily annoyed and doesn't put up with a lot of nonsense since he's accustomed to adhering to a sense of order, but a loose one, like he was used to while following the Signless around.

Cyrus Ioannis Onikous is nothing exciting. His father was a slightly Greek Englishmen living in London, went to Greece to discover his roots, met an enchanting Greek woman on the beach, fell in love, married, they moved to England together. Cyrus was born. Cyrus had heterochromia. Cyrus was ambidexterous. When speaking Greek, he was referred to as Cyrus Ioannis, when speaking English he would be referred to as Simon Johnathan. But he always preferred Cyrus. His family was relatively well off. Decent income, with enough to spare for them to afford to live the high life now and then. He attended public school with uneventful years, but excellent grades. His life was normal.

Except for his mother being a witch.

It wasn't as if it was something new and exciting for Cyrus. In fact, he had thought his entire life that it was normal for all people to have magic in the family.

Cyrus's father had known shortly after the marriage that his new wife was a witch, and yet, he was entirely content with this. He had thought marrying a witch was a great experience.

Cyrus grew up with magic. He knew it was in his family, and he was quite used to his mother weaving spells in the house. They lived in a relatively urban area, outside of Manchester, so they would often have to keep the magic hidden unless going into the magic district of the city. Cyrus was able to pick up on bits of magic at a young age, often without realizing. Usually it would involve him figuring out the mechanics to some of the magic circles his mother would leave throughout the house.

For the most part, he attended a regular primary school outside of Manchester with other local children, where he tried to stay invisible. He'd known since he was incredibly young that he would not stay here forever, and that, because of his mother's magical background, he would one day receive a letter and it would inform him of his opportunity to be whisked away to the magical world of witches, wizards and magic. Cyrus was a bookworm in school. While other children seemed to be mostly wrapped up in their portable walkmen, and their obsession with television shows, he tried not to bother himself with it much, since he knew that there was something much cooler about him than there was with the other children. So while everyone else was busy watching television, Cyrus would preoccupy himself with books--fiction and non-fiction.

But that wasn't entirely beneficial.

Cyrus was one of those kids. Those here, meaning one of those children who was bullied a lot. His mother, although very dependent on magic in the household, understood that she couldn't just use simple charms to make the personal problems of Cyrus just vanish. So, as an agreed decision from both his mother and father, Cyrus was informed that any sort of health issue he had--he would have to learn to cope with, via muggle standards, rather than magic. The most notable of these issues being?

Cyrus had glasses and braces.

Even though it was totally in his mother's power to fix his eyesight and straighten out the boys teeth, there would be something incredibly suspicious in a muggle school if a boy who had been squinting for weeks with crooked teeth, had suddenly shown up with perfect vision and sparkly, pearly white teeth to show off. It wasn't exactly favorable for Cyrus though. Being that he was a bookworm, relatively intelligent (and fantastic at math to boot), and had the standard glasses-braces-combo (with a bonus lisp thanks to the braces), he was picked on and constantly getting pushed around by the other boys at school. He was the residential punching bag for other students, and there was nothing he could do about it.

That is until he accidentally turned another boy's nose into a pig's snout, and a girl's pigtails into two wiggly tentacles.

The problems of coming to magical age while in a muggle society.

Thankfully, this incident came near the end of his time in the muggle school system, so Cyrus's mother and father promptly pulled him from the school, deciding that he would just finish the year through some homeschooling while they anticipated the boy's letter that coming summer.

The day the owl came flying in through the window was the happiest day of Cyrus's life. He had started to pack his things up quickly, much to his parents amusement. They planned a trip to London for the following week so they might all be able to go to Diagon Alley together in order to get Cyrus's school supplies so he could get a heads start (not that he hadn't already read every book on magic in the house).

Cyrus eagerly joined his mother in shopping for his school supplies. He'd never gotten to really see the wizarding world outside of his home, and the occassional family trips to Greece to see his grandparents. Everything was obtained without issue (aside for his mother having a difficult time getting a cloak that would fit him properly, since he'd always been such a skinny child), including his wand--11 3/4 Inches, Elm with a Centaur Tail Hair Core. In addition, he had obtained a small, two headed lizard. It had not been magically enhanced either--which Cyrus found to be incredibly cool--and had been born that way. He named the two heads Kastor and Pollux.

Before Cyrus ever even got to board the Hogwarts Express to attend school, he immediately took to two subjects that he wouldn't really get much of a chance to explore until his later years: Astronomy and Ancient Runes. Several of his text books involved studying symbolism and utilizing symbols in regards to using spells without ever having to use an incantation or a wand. Cyrus was immediately hooked, and he started to take notes on the topics before he had even packed his trunk.

It was on the Hogwarts Express that Cyrus would meet one of the two friends he would keep well into his adult life. It was a young, muggle born boy who seemed to be very eager to make friends--especially in the wizarding world. The two of them sat in their very own compartment on the train and instantly bonded.

Upon arriving at Hogwarts, Cyrus had gotten himself rather instantly selected as the subject of another student--a pureblood, who simply disliked Cyrus for not being pure along with him, and not for his glasses and braces. In an odd way, it was a welcome change for Cyrus, who had been used to being bullied for his nerdiness his entire life. But it really wasn't much better. However, he was sorted into Gryffindor, along with his friend from the train and a friendly girl with a cat obsession, and that friendship would last through out school and beyond. Frequently, he would visit his friends for his breaks, or they would come and stay with him instead.

Overall, Cyrus excelled in school, and he became incredibly proficient with Charms (like his mother) and also took a shine to ancient runes and astronomy, like he had, when he was younger.

For a short period after school, Cyrus began to do free lance studying, but only for a short time, as he traveled to Scandinavia in order to study with legitimate practitioners--both muggle and wizarding folk alike. But this entire venture was put on hold, as his school friends had come along to him with the proposition of the three of them travelling Europe together for a while.

Shortly after the trip, Cyrus had started to attend a muggle university in northern Denmark, with the intent of studying mythology--from a non-wizarding perspective. However, while attending a muggle univerity in Denmark, he also had chosen to attend this school with the purpose of receiving supplementary education from runic practitioners, and skilled astronomers. After finishing with his muggle studies in Denmark, he continued to pursue his preferred field for sometime after.

However, there was a sort of unplanned event with all of this. It was the meeting of a very powerful, somewhat older witch who had taken quite the shine to the young man. She was also a practitioner of runes, but seemed to dabble a fair bit on the darker side of reading the ancient symbols, and shared quite an interest in using runic magic against the muggle world. While Cyrus was rather adamantly against this sort of idea, the woman tried quite a lot to convince Cyrus to follow in her beliefs of muggles, and muggle borns being beneath them, seeming to be quite oblivious to the boy's half-blooded nature. The day that she discoverd this, Cyrus had to leave, in fear that the woman was going to do something rather unforgivable towards him.

This triggered him into being somewhat more reserved, and much more careful when practicing his own magic. After the death of his father, his mother returned to Greece, and somewhat frequently, Cyrus would return to the country in order to get away from the stresses of muggle society in England. While he continued to study a bit of Ancient Greek magic symbols, he started to conclude that maybe, after all he had experienced in northern Europe, it was time to move past this, and start to explore more of the magical world again, outside of his field.

He started by offering to tutor current and former Hogwarts students, and attempted to set up a small business for a period, but he started to conclude something rather unfortunate, but very realistic. He needed work, and he wasn't going to be able to make a living giving occasional lessons in a subject when most students were away at school. And well, when he found out that his old school pal had gotten a teaching position? He figured it was about time he went ahead and tried to pursue work as well.

Third Person Sample:
[It was like he was a child again, rushing through the halls, knowing he would be late for class. Knowing he would be reprimanded for it. Knowing he would most likely get bat over the head with a roll of parchment for his tardiness. Except this time, he was the teacher, and he would be the one who just looked like a raging jackass. Cyrus figured that he might as well let these kids know that from now on, he wouldn't be faulting any of them for coming to class late, since he was constantly arriving late anyways.

Obviously it wouldn't mean that he would let it slide all the time, but, well. He knows this castle is large. He knows that even as an adult, he's getting lost going through the corridors to get to class on time For a brief moment, he concludes that if any student mouths off to him for his tardiness, their tongue would be enlarged for the duration of class. Cyrus smiled just a bit at the thought as he figured this was a splendid idea.]

[The pocket watch came out of his cloak as he started down the corridor of his class room. Three after, he wasn't that late. Students had ten minutes, as far as he was concerned, before they were allowed to get anxious. His part time attendance of a muggle university and his Runic program in Denmark had taught him that all teachers were allowed at least ten minutes before students were allowed to get up and leave.]

[The watch slipped back into his cloak and Cyrus entered the room, pushing up his glasses with his free hand as his arm shifted the stack of papers beneath his other arm. He didn't look at the class, just yet, and instead, he set down his papers on the desk at the front of the room--and removed his cloak, and stood there--gaze still averted from the class--and waved his wand rather absent-mindedly as he spoke.]

Hello class, my name is Cyrus Onikous, and yes, you are going to have to remember how to spell that name. In runes.

[The spelling of Cyrus's name glowed in the air, written in the Runic alphabet, with the Roman lettering right beneath it. He could hear quills already scratching away at the pattern. He feels himself smiling a little bit.]

I would like to make a number of things clear with all of you before lecture even begins. I am Greek. I have an accent. If I hear you mocking it, I will end you. I also have a lisp that creeps up from time to time. Again, if I hear you mocking it, I will legitimately enlarge your front teeth and leave you like that for the day. Third. I have crippling social anxiety, so I intend to come to this class dressed and poised in a way that makes me comfortable--

[He turns to the class, finally, smiling and pushing his glasses up a fair bit. Some of the students seem really put off, but others seem to be relaxing. Good. Perfect.]

And I feel that if I have to make myself comfortable in some form in order to feel I can adequately teach you, then I have absolutely no qualms with any of you doing the same. Within reason. Shed cloaks, let your hair down, take your shoes off, whatever it is you feel could make you more comfortable as well. Hell, bring in pillows and sit on the floor for all I care. As long as you think you can perform better.

[He had heard a few students laugh at him. Good. He felt as if he was making a decent first impression. He'd always done well in school with teachers who were like him, and he was hoping that maybe he would have the same impact now that he was in the educator position.]
